    Who we are

    Microsoft Developer Center Norway (MDCN), with offices in Oslo, Trondheim and Tromsø, is part of the Experiences & Devices group within Microsoft. We work on integrating and building intelligent experiences across Office 365 via cloud services such as Outlook, OneDrive, SharePoint, Skype and Microsoft Teams. Their implementation ranks among the world's largest and most cutting-edge distributed systems spanning hundreds of data centers around the world. Our products are used by most Fortune 500 enterprises, key government organizations, thousands of non-profits and 100s of millions of consumers across the world.

    To deliver on our mission to empower people and organizations to achieve more, we need to leverage data to inform decision making, optimize outcomes and produce innovative solutions and are seeking a skilled data scientist. We can offer an agile development environment in Oslo with diverse skills in algorithms and data structures, big data, data science, machine learning and search technology to mention a few. The position is full-time and based in our Oslo office.

    Qualifications

    Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years of data-science experience (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)

    • O OR Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field AND 8+ years data-science experience.

    o OR equivalent experience.

    Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Track record of defining, delivering, and optimizing explorative data science and machine learning projects that address real-world problems.
  • Knowledge of distributed big-data computing systems (e.g. Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Azure ML).
  • Experience in experimentation frameworks and understanding how to measure end user impacting metrics.
  • Experience with ML tools to build models and analyze data (e.g. Python, R, scikit-learn, TF, PyTorch, ML.NET).
  • Software engineering experience covering software engineering best practices (code quality, repo hygiene, code reviews, unit testing, design documentation, continuous integration, deployment).

    • Responsibilities

    You will work as a Microsoft Senior Data Scientist in Oslo with some of the largest services in the world, using data to understand user behavior, identify opportunities and gaps, and define and implement data science and ML based solutions.

    You will work in a collaborative environment, with local and remote partners to understand business needs, and formulate a roadmap of project activity that leads to measurable improvement in business performance metrics over time.

    You will acquire the data necessary for your project plan and develop usable data sets for modeling. You'll also update internal best practices for data collection and preparation, and contribute to data integrity conversations with partners.

    You will evaluate your team's models and recommend improvements as necessary, drive best practices for models, and develop operational models that run at scale. You'll also conduct thorough reviews of data analysis and modeling techniques, and identify and invent new evaluation methods.

    You will research and maintain a deep knowledge of the industry, including trends and technologies, so that you can identify strategy opportunities and contribute to thought leadership best practices. You'll also write extensible code that spans multiple features, and develop expertise in proper debugging techniques.

    You will define business, customer, and solution strategy goals, and partner with other teams to identify and explore new opportunities. You'll also apply a customer-oriented focus to understand their needs.
